"1776" (1972)

If the idea of The Founding Fathers singing, gamboling, and gavotting while debating the nascency of our country's independence gives you the dry heaves, think again. This is a witty, tuneful, take on what happened that hot July in Philadelphia. It's history simplified no doubt, but you come away having learned a lot, especially the compromises involving that thorny problem of slavery. Are you listening Michele Bachman?
