"Hangover Square" (1945)

An odd stew of melodrama, noir, and costume drama that's very watchable. A turn-of-the-century composer (Laird Cregor) is wooed into writing songs for a duplicitous dancehall singer (Linda Darnell) while he's ALSO committing murderous crimes in gaslit London that happen when he hears piercing noises! Hot on his trail is Scotland Yard psychiatrist George Sanders. Add an amazing Bernard Hermann score and the real-life tragedy of ALL THREE stars (Google them) and you've got a haunting evening of viewing...the over-the-top finale concert is worth waiting for.
