"Charlie Chan at the Opera" (1936)

If you can get past the cringe-inducing racial stereotypes, this is a pretty nifty whodunnit starring Warner Oland as the great Asian sleuth. A star soprano turns up dead onstage during a performance and there's no shortage of suspects, including Boris Karloff as an escaped mental patient skulking around like a Phantom of the Opera redux. You won't solve the puzzle before Chan, but that's the fun of it, right? Confucious say "Check it out!"
